Nurses and midwives who have trained outside the EEA who want to work in the UK as a nurse or midwife must gain registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). To do this they will need to undertake compulsory Overseas Nursing Programme (ONP) or Adaptation Programme as directed by the NMC.

 

Individuals cannot enter the UK to complete an ONP or Adaptation Programme without a sponsor, which will lead to employment as a registered nurse or midwife.

 

Now UK Border Agency has recommended that whoever coming to do Overseas Nursing Programme (ONP) will apply under Tier 2 of the Points Based System. Tier 2 is a work permit category and it is necessary for the employer to agree for the employee to undertake the period of study and adaptation training necessary for the ONP.

 

To be eligible for this Overseas Nursing progam (ONP), applicants must be Registered Nurses from Overseas with an IELTS band score of minimum 7 in each section of academic modules.

With the collaboration of few universities ‘Care Globe’ will organise the ONP for the qualified applicants with the sponsor by providing the Tier 2 certificate (Work Permit) for 3 years. On successful completion of ONP, the applicant can continue with the same sponsor to work as Registered General Nurse or you can change the employer .
